Dominance shows what percentage of the crypto market is held by Bitcoin (BTC.D), Ethereum (ETH.D), TradingView-style market collections (TOTAL2, TOTAL3, OTHERS, TOP10, STABLE.D), or any of the Top 50 individual coins. A toggle at the top lets you measure every share either excluding stablecoins or including stablecoins. Free members get the full Bitcoin Dominance chart and current market shares for every asset; Premium unlocks all collections, individual coins, multi-line comparisons and 30-day winners and losers. It is a description of market structure, not a forecast, a signal or financial advice.

01What is Dominance?

Dominance measures how much of the total crypto market cap sits in a specific coin or collection of coins. When Bitcoin Dominance (BTC.D) rises, Bitcoin is growing faster than the rest of the crypto market, or falling more slowly during a downturn. When TOTAL3 or OTHERS dominance rises, altcoins are taking a larger slice of the pie.

Unlike Sector Dominance, which divides the altcoin market into thematic categories like Memecoins, AI or DeFi, the Dominance page looks at the entire crypto market and tracks specific coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, BNB, DOGE, LINK, TAO and more) alongside the standard TradingView market collections (TOTAL2, TOTAL3, OTHERS, STABLE.D and TOTAL).

02Excluding vs. Including stablecoins

At the top of the page you can switch between 'Excluding stablecoins' and 'Including stablecoins'. Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC have grown into a multi-hundred-billion-dollar pool of sidelines capital. Including them in the denominator pushes every volatile coin's dominance percentage down simply because stablecoin supply expanded over the years.

Switching to 'Excluding stablecoins' removes all tracked stablecoins from the denominator so you see the pure split between Bitcoin, Ethereum and altcoins. Stablecoin series themselves (STABLE.D, USDT.D and USDC.D) are always divided by the total market including stablecoins so their share stays meaningful in both views.

03How do you read it?

Pick up to four collections or individual coins from the quick-access bar or the searchable dropdown. When you compare assets of very different size — for example BTC.D (~65%) against SOL.D (~2.5%) — the chart defaults to 'Fit' mode, which scales each line to its own peak in the visible window so you can compare their direction and inflection points directly. Switch to 'True share' to put every line on one absolute percentage axis.

Above the chart, four summary cards highlight the biggest 30-day winners and losers, both in relative percentage change (which coin grew its share the fastest) and in percentage points (which asset or collection absorbed the most total market share). Below the chart, the heatmap table lists every collection and Top 50 coin with its current share, USD market cap and change over 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.

How do you read it?
Collection / TickerWhat it measures
BTC.D / ETH.DBitcoin or Ethereum market cap divided by the total crypto market cap
TOTAL2.DAll altcoins including Ethereum (total non-stable market minus Bitcoin)
TOTAL3.DAll altcoins excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum
OTHERS.DAll altcoins outside the top 10 largest non-stable coins
TOP10.DHigh-cap altcoins ranked #3 to #10 (TOTAL3 minus OTHERS)
STABLE.DAll tracked stablecoins (USDT, USDC, USDS, USDe, DAI, etc.) divided by the total market including stablecoins
TOTALThe 100% total crypto market reference line

04How is it calculated?

Every day the tool takes the top 300 coins by market cap and removes wrapped, staked and bridged copies (such as stETH, wstETH, WBTC and cbBTC) as well as tokenized real-world asset funds (such as BUIDL or tokenized gold) so the same capital is never counted twice.

The remaining non-stable coins form the 'Excluding stablecoins' denominator; adding the tracked stablecoins forms the 'Including stablecoins' denominator. Each coin or collection's market cap is divided by that denominator. Daily snapshots are frozen from 6 October 2026 onward; earlier dates back to June 2020 are reconstructed from CoinGecko daily market caps.

05What are the limits?

Keep these constraints in mind when reading dominance charts.

Market share is not price

A coin's dominance can rise while its USD price falls if the rest of the market falls even faster. Always check USD and BTC pairs alongside dominance.

Supply inflation affects share

Market cap equals price times circulating supply. Token unlocks or supply expansion can raise a coin's market cap share without a matching price rise; inspect [Vesting Tracker](/learn/tools/vesting-tracker) for unlock schedules.

Reconstructed history has survivorship bias

Dates before 6 October 2026 are built from today's top 1,000 coins. Projects that were large in 2020–2022 and later collapsed out of the top 1,000 are not in the historical pool.

Universe differs slightly from TradingView

We compute clean denominators from the top 300 CoinGecko coins with wrapped tokens and RWA excluded, so decimals can differ slightly from TradingView's CRYPTOCAP indices.

06An example of use

A made-up example. Suppose BTC.D (excluding stablecoins) has climbed from 54% to 66% over a year while TOTAL3.D dropped from 28% to 22%, and over the last 30 days SOL.D is the biggest relative winner (+18%). That tells you capital has concentrated into Bitcoin overall, while Solana took share from other altcoins. You can then check Cycle Map or Altcoin Season Index for broader context.

07What is free and what is Premium?

Free members get the full Bitcoin Dominance (BTC.D) chart back to 2020, the Excluding/Including stablecoins toggle, and the current market share and USD market cap for every collection and Top 50 coin in the table. Premium unlocks ETH.D, TOTAL2, TOTAL3, OTHERS, TOP10, STABLE.D, all Top 50 individual coins, multi-line comparisons (up to four on one chart), the 30-day winners and losers cards, and the 1W to 1Y share changes.

08Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Dominance and Sector Dominance?

Dominance measures individual coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, etc.) and market-wide collections (TOTAL2, TOTAL3, OTHERS, STABLE.D) as a share of the whole crypto market. Sector Dominance measures thematic CoinGecko categories (Memecoins, AI, DeFi, Layer 2) as a share of the altcoin market only.

Why should I toggle between Excluding and Including stablecoins?

Stablecoins are dollar-pegged liquidity rather than volatile crypto bets. Excluding them shows the direct tug-of-war between Bitcoin, Ethereum and altcoins without distortion from growing USDT and USDC supply.

Why is the Total Crypto Market (TOTAL) always 100%?

Because dominance is defined as a percentage of the total crypto market. TOTAL is included as a 100% reference baseline and to show the total USD market cap in the tooltip and table.

What does 'Fit' vs 'True share' do on the chart?

When you compare a large index like BTC.D (around 65%) with a single altcoin like LINK.D (under 0.5%), 'True share' flattens the smaller coin near the bottom axis. 'Fit' scales each line to its own peak in the visible window so you can compare their trends side by side.

Is a rising dominance line a buy signal?

No. Dominance describes historical and current market share. It is not a forecast, a trading signal or financial advice.
