MiCA-Compliant Euro Stablecoin EURAU Makes Strategic DEX Push Amid Regulatory Ambiguity

AllUnity, a regulated European stablecoin issuer, is aggressively expanding its euro-pegged EURAU token across major decentralized exchanges, signaling confidence in DeFi's regulatory trajectory even as Brussels questions whether the sector truly remains outside MiCA's reach.
DEX Expansion Strategy Takes Shape
The company announced Thursday that EURAU is now live on liquidity pools across tier-one decentralized exchanges. The rollout prioritizes depth and accessibility, launching two critical trading pairs: EURAU/USDT on Ethereum via Uniswap (the dominant DEX by trading volume), and EURAU/USDT0 on the Tempo blockchain. Solana traders gain access through Raydium's EURAU/USDT pool, ensuring omnichain liquidity that traders need for seamless execution.
This represents a calculated move to build what the company calls "a robust and accessible euro liquidity layer." AllUnity's executive Rupertus Rothenhäuser framed the strategy plainly: "We're enabling seamless euro-dollar trading, empowering institutions and liquidity providers to participate in deep, efficient markets."
The Regulatory Elephant in the Room
Here's where things get complicated. AllUnity holds a MiCA-compliant Electronic Money Institution license from Germany's BaFin regulator (secured in July 2025), making it one of Europe's few regulated stablecoin issuers. The company launched EURAU on July 31, 2025, and has steadily built exchange presence across both centralized venues like Bullish and DeFi protocols like Aerodrome (which hosted EURAU's first DEX integration in December 2025).
But the regulatory framework governing DeFi remains murky. While DeFi is generally considered outside MiCA's perimeter, the European Central Bank threw a wrench into that assumption last month by questioning whether decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) qualify as sufficiently decentralized to escape regulatory oversight. The implication: this could change.
AllUnity declined to comment when we pressed on potential regulatory conflicts between MiCA compliance and DEX trading pairs that include US dollar stablecoins—a detail worth monitoring.
The Dollar Dominance Problem MiCA Hasn't Solved
MiCA entered full force in late 2024 with one stated objective: dethrone dollar stablecoins. It hasn't worked. US dollar-pegged tokens still command 97% of the $316 billion global stablecoin market, according to CoinGecko data. Major issuers like Tether have openly rejected MiCA compliance, citing excessive requirements—a stance that prompted some compliant exchanges to delist USDT. Even banking officials now acknowledge MiCA may be insufficient to shift the dollar's dominance.
This dynamic creates space for euro alternatives like EURAU, which launched into a relatively uncontested market niche. Yet EURAU remains small by market capitalization compared to established euro stablecoins, suggesting institutional adoption still lags.
Alpha Take
AllUnity's DEX strategy is smart: build liquidity where traders actually trade, regardless of regulatory ambiguity. The Uniswap and Raydium listings create the trading depth institutions require. However, watch the ECB's stance on DAOs closely—if regulators tighten MiCA's DeFi scope, euro stablecoins could face new compliance hurdles. For now, EURAU represents a credible play on euro liquidity in crypto, but regulatory clarity remains the limiting factor for meaningful adoption.
