Yield Guild Games Abandons Gaming Publishing to Refocus on AI—35 Workers Out

Yield Guild Games is making a dramatic pivot away from its core business. The gaming-focused crypto investment platform is shutting down YGG Play, its game publishing division, and discontinuing titles including LOL Land. The move will result in 35 layoffs as the organization reallocates resources toward artificial intelligence initiatives.

The Strategic Retreat

YGG Play represented the company's attempt to become a full-service gaming publisher within the crypto ecosystem. The division managed publishing operations and game development partnerships—essentially positioning Yield Guild as more than just an investor in blockchain gaming. That strategy is now dead.

In a statement, leadership cited "the current crypto market downturn and other contributing factors" as drivers of the decision. Translation: revenue dried up, user engagement collapsed, and burning cash on publishing operations no longer made financial sense. The 35 affected employees will be let go as part of the restructuring.

LOL Land, a game that had been in development under the YGG Play banner, will be shelved entirely. Any other titles under the publishing arm are being discontinued. This represents a complete exit from the publishing space—not a pause, but a reset.
